We're launching Sweden's first V2X-compatible EMS. Want to join the journey?

Sourceful Energy First with V2X-Compatible EMS

The energy landscape is changing rapidly. Solar panels are spreading across rooftops, home batteries are becoming increasingly common, and electric vehicles with batteries often larger than a home's daily energy needs sit parked in driveways. Meanwhile, grid operators have started rolling out demand charges. A new reality that's changing the rules for how we consume and save on electricity.

This is why we at Sourceful built the Zap. And now we're taking the next step.

Sourceful EMS

With Sourceful Zap, we're scaling up our energy management system (EMS) that connects electricity meters, solar installations, batteries, and EV chargers from any manufacturer into an intelligent, unified system. Everything is controlled from a single app.

Our EMS initially optimizes "behind the meter" to help homeowners and property managers:

  • Take advantage of price variations: Charge your battery or car when electricity is cheapest and use the stored energy when prices rise.
  • Protect yourself against demand charges. More on that shortly.
  • Maximize self-consumption of your solar production instead of selling the surplus at spot price.

What are demand charges anyway?

Starting January 2027, all grid operators in Sweden must have implemented demand charges, according to a decision by the Swedish Energy Markets Inspectorate. Many companies have already started.

Simply put, demand charges mean you no longer just pay for how much electricity you use, but also for how much you use at the same time. The grid fee is based on your highest power peaks during the month, often measured as an average of the three hours with highest consumption on non-holiday weekdays, typically between 7 AM and 7 PM.

This means that running EV charging, dishwasher, and heat pump simultaneously can result in a significant hit on your grid bill, even if total consumption is low. Conversely, those who spread out their electricity usage can save thousands per year.

Sourceful Zap is built for exactly this. By connecting your energy resources and controlling them intelligently, we automatically cut your power peaks without you having to think about it.

The market's first V2X-compatible EMS

We're now launching something we're particularly proud of: Sweden's first V2X-compatible EMS for the consumer market.

V2X stands for Vehicle-to-Everything and includes services like V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid), V2H (Vehicle-to-Home), V2B (Vehicle-to-Building), and V2L (Vehicle-to-Load). In practice, this means your electric vehicle is no longer just a mode of transportation. It becomes a flexible energy storage system.

With bidirectional charging, your EV's battery can:

  • Store surplus electricity from your solar panels for use when electricity is expensive
  • Power your home during hours with high spot prices or demand charges
  • Balance out power peaks in the property and lower your demand fees
  • Sell electricity back to the grid when demand and prices are high

Your EV is parked most of the day. With V2X, it can work for you even when standing still, while contributing to a more robust power grid as a bonus.

The solution is being launched together with leading partners that we'll announce soon.

Compatible with the market's leading hardware

Sourceful Zap is hardware-agnostic. We don't believe in lock-in. We believe in openness and freedom of choice. That's why we've built compatibility with the market's most popular systems from the start.

First among compatible resources:

  • Ambibox DC charger for V2X/bidirectional charging
  • Hybrid inverters: Sungrow, Solis, Pixii, and Deye
  • Electricity meters: Our Zap also works as a real-time meter, compatible with most smart meters on the market

More integrations are coming continuously. Our philosophy is simple: if you've already invested in solar panels or a home battery, you should be able to use it. You shouldn't have to buy new equipment just to switch control systems.

For installers, wholesalers, and energy companies

We've designed the solution to simplify life for installers.

One installation, many systems. Instead of managing separate apps and platforms for each component, Zap connects everything. It saves time during installation, simplifies troubleshooting, and results in happier customers who don't have to juggle multiple logins.

We're now looking for more installers and partners who want to join the journey and offer their customers a complete energy solution with smart control. The V2X market is in its infancy, and the need for competent installers will grow explosively in the coming years.

For homeowners, housing associations, and smaller properties

Sourceful Zap is primarily aimed at:

  • Homeowners with solar panels, home batteries, and/or EVs who want to maximize their investment and protect themselves against demand charges
  • Housing associations that want to lower the association's demand fees by utilizing shared energy resources more smartly
  • Smaller rental properties where there's an opportunity to cut power peaks and reduce operating costs
